Calling All Alumni: Volunteer at a College Fair This Fall

Septiembre 3, 2025

This fall, Whittier College alumni have the chance to make a real impact — by representing their alma mater at local college fairs across the country.

Every year, thousands of high school students attend college fairs to explore their options, and there’s no better voice for Whittier than its own alumni. The Office of Admissions is looking for proud Poets to volunteer at select college fairs in California, Illinois, and Minnesota to change the way a student sees their future.

Volunteers receive all the materials they need and a quick briefing, so no admissions experience is required — just your Whittier pride and a willingness to share your story.

As members of the Whittier College Black Alumni Association, Erle ’82 and Vanessa Collins ’84 of Los Angeles have shown up year after year to represent their alma mater at regional college fairs — and they’ll be the first to tell you, it's worth every minute.

“When we speak with students and families, we get to share what made our college experience so transformative,” Erle says. “It’s a chance to give back and help someone else picture their future.”

“It’s meaningful to meet students who light up when they hear about Whittier’s small class sizes and close-knit campus,” added Vanessa. “A glimpse of campus life helps them envision their future at Whittier College and become a part of our community.”

Whether you're reconnecting with fellow alumni, helping future Poets, or just giving back in a meaningful way, volunteering is a small act with a big return. The first fair of the season begins this month.
