Learn how to navigate advising, Degree Works, course planning, and major exploration while creating a roadmap toward graduation and your future goals.

10:05-11 a.m. Thriving at Whittier | Shannon Center
Learn practical strategies for managing stress, balancing responsibilities, and prioritizing your well-being while discovering the resources available to help you thrive.

11:05 a.m. - 12 p.m. How to Succeed as a Poet | Shannon Center
Hear directly from current students about what they wish they had known during their first semester.

  • Poets are Active Allies: Learn how to recognize concerning situations, support your peers, and contribute to a campus culture built on care, respect, and accountability.
  • Being in Community: Learn how every Poet contributes to creating a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive campus.
  • Financing College: Learn about financial aid, billing, budgeting, and resources that can help you make informed decisions throughout your Whittier experience.

2:15-3:30 p.m. First Years: Meet Your Faculty Mentor / Poet 101 | Various Classrooms
Meet your faculty mentor and begin building a relationship that will support your transition to college. Learn what to expect from the course and how faculty can help you succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

2:15-3:30 p.m. Transfers: Utilizing Your Strengths to Navigate Career Choices | Villalobos Hall
Explore how your unique background can support your academic success, career goals, and next steps as a transfer student.

3:40-4:20 p.m. Getting First Day Ready | Various Classrooms
Learn how to find your classes, understand your syllabus, connect with professors, and navigate the academic expectations of college life. 

4:20-5 p.m. Design Your First 2 Weeks Challenge | Various Classrooms
We will guide you through this session to help prepare for the transition and create your first two weeks at Whittier challenge.

9:30-10 a.m. Resource Plant Bingo and Leading at Whittier | Shannon Center
Discover the people, programs, and opportunities that make Whittier come alive. This session showcases involvement opportunities as Poets so that you can engage in leadership development while playing resource bingo for a change to win plants.

10-11 a.m. Your Future at Whittier | Shannon Center
Hear honest stories from current students about overcoming challenges, building resilience, and finding their place at Whittier.

11-11:45 a.m. Poet Challenge Completion and Closing | Shannon Center

11:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Poet Festival and A Sweet Social | North Lawn and the President's House, respectively
Enjoy lunch, games, and music while connecting with fellow Poets, and end Orientation with a special Whittier tradition at the President's House.

12-5 p.m. Open Office Hours (optional)
Visit offices if you have pending items to submit or have questions about your financial aid or payments.

12:30-1:30 p.m. International Student Welcome Session | Hoover 100
We will help students with finalizing their registration, visa requirements, and more. This session is required for international students.

12:30-1:30 p.m. Veterans/Veteran-Dependent Welcome | Veteran Resource Center
Learn about the resources and support available to veterans and military-affiliated students including VA education benefits and Yellow Ribbon.

3-5 p.m. Swim | Graham Athletic Center (optional)

Our engaging panelists will share campus resources and offer transitionary tips to support Poets & What not to do when your student struggles.

4:40-5 p.m. Whittier Works
Our Center for Career and Professional Development will introduce Whittier Works which distinguishes WC.

5-5:30 p.m. Parent Mixer and Bingo
This is an opportunity to connect with fellow guardians and play bingo for prizes.
