Noise
Wardman Library provides a variety of spaces for study and collaboration. All users should be considerate of others. Headphones should be used on all floors when listening or viewing media.
- First floor: Collaboration and discussion is encouraged. Cell phone use is permitted.
- Mezzanine floor: Quiet talk is permitted.
- Top floor: Silent study only.
- Group study rooms (Mezzanine and Top floors): Collaboration and discussion are encouraged.
Group Study Rooms
Located on the Mezzanine and Top Floor, Wardman Library’s study rooms are great locations to brainstorm, share ideas, and work in groups. All study rooms have whiteboards and some are equipped with HD displays. Dry erase markers and erasers are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk.
Eight group study rooms are available for reservations and three are available as first come, first serve. To use any of these rooms, students must check out the room card at the Circulation Desk. Students who check out a study room will be able to use the room for up to four hours. The check out card must be returned to the Circulation Desk by the time due. Fines are assessed at $1.00 each hour when the checkout card is not returned on time. Study rooms may not be renewed. While students may temporarily use a room without checking it out, they will be asked to leave if another party checks out the room. Therefore, the Library encourages any group to reserve a room beforehand or check out a study room if they wish to use one.
- Reservations and/or check out of study room cards are limited to currently enrolled Whittier College students. Whittier College students may use the rooms when not in use, but must vacate the room for users who have reserved the space or checked out the room.
- Rooms can be reserved up to three days in advance through the room reservation page.
- Only current Whittier College IDs may be used to check out study rooms.
- Cards must remain in the window of the study rooms at all times or else the student forfeits the right to use the study room.
- Users cannot leave the Library with study room cards. They are intended to stay in the Library the entire time you have the room checked out.
- Users may not move tables and chairs into or remove them from a study room.
- Study rooms are not soundproof. Conversations can be heard outside the rooms. Users should maintain a study/work environment that does not disturb others in the Library.
- Users are responsible for personal property. Do not leave items unattended. The Library is not liable for loss or damage to personal property.
- Users of the study rooms are responsible for leaving the room in a neat and orderly condition. This includes turning off equipment, erasing the whiteboard, and disposing of food/drink.
- Disruptive or threatening behavior and vandalism may result in expulsion from a study room.
Violation of these or other applicable Library or college policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension of access to Library study rooms.
Animals
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), patrons with service dogs are welcomed into Wardman Library. Whittier College faculty, students and staff are permitted to bring a non-service dog into the Library, provided guidelines are followed. Service dog and non-service dog owners must adhere to the Dog Policy Acknowledgment guidelines below during their visit to Wardman Library.
Wardman Library seeks to provide a safe and productive environment for all its users and staff. Please observe the following dog guidelines:
- All dogs must be leashed or harnessed at all times. An exception is for service dogs whose work or the individual’s disability prevents using a leash or harness.
- Dogs must not be left unattended at any time.
- Dogs cannot display disruptive behavior such as barking or growling.
- The dog’s owner/handler is responsible for any upkeep or clean-up for the animal.
A patron with a dog may be relocated within the library due to other users’ allergies or a fear/anxiety towards dogs.
If a dog’s behavior does not conform to these guidelines, or poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others it may not remain in the Library. If the service dog is excluded from the Library, the individual with the disability is welcomed to stay and will be reasonably accommodated by library staff.
