Expected FAFSA Processing Delays

The U.S. Department of Education has advised us to expect significant FAFSA processing delays that will impact our ability to prepare an accurate financial aid package for admitted students.

Request and Estimated Financial Aid Package

We understand how critical it is for you and your family to review your total financial aid package and out-of-pocket costs before making a final college selection. Therefore, we invite admitted students to log in to their Poet Portal to complete a short survey and provide us with the Student Affordability Index (SAI) they received when they submitted their FAFSA. By providing their SAI, Whittier’s Office of Financial Aid can prepare a tentative financial aid package for admitted students while we continue to wait for their FAFSA information.

The Office of Financial Aid is here to help guide you and your family through our scholarship and financial aid programs designed to help families in all financial circumstances.

We will provide you and your family with information, financial assistance, coordination of aid from federal and state resources, access to work and loan programs, and plans to make attending Whittier College possible.

  • Whittier College awarded over $60 million in scholarships and merit awards to students admitted for fall 2023
  • More than 85% of our students receive some form of aid and every admitted student is considered for a John Greenleaf Whittier Scholarship
  • Most students receive a financial aid package that combines a variety of sources: Whittier College grants, scholarships, federal grants, loans, work-study, and state scholarships or grant funding.
  • We have a number of scholarship programs designed to reward students who have demonstrated academic ability, leadership, community service commitment, and special talents in high school.

Applying for financial aid will require an investment of your time, but our financial aid staff is available to assist. You can schedule a phone conversation or meeting to learn more about funding opportunities. Please contact us by email at fao@whittier.edu, by phone at 562.907.4285, or by fax at 562.464.4560.

Incoming students who submit their enrollment deposit will receive access to their my.whittier.edu account. Access to the online account/student portal, is typically granted after the deposit deadline. This account will be your main source of information about your current financial aid status, awards, and necessary requirements, while in attendance. Please check your account regularly.
