Join distinguished alumni Miguel Santana '91 and Andrea Shorter '88 in a timely discussion on race, justice, and equity, moderated by Associate Professor Rebecca Overmyer-Velázquez, C. Wright Mills Endowed Chair in Sociology

  • Miguel Santana is the incoming president of the Weingart Foundation, member of the Whittier College Board of Trustees, and chair of the Civic Alliance coalition which recently released No Going Back, a detailed report on racial inequity in Los Angeles which proposes wide-ranging changes to public systems.
     
  • Andrea Shorter is a strategic consultant and advisor, commissioner and former president of the historic San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, and a longtime advocate for criminal and juvenile justice reform, voter rights, and marriage equality. She is also a member of the Whittier College Black Alumni Association.
     
  • Professor Rebecca Overmyer-Velázquez, teaches courses in racial and ethnic relations, urban politics and environmental justice, indigenous peoples social movements, and third world economic development. She is currently the C. Wright Mills Endowed Chair in Sociology, established by the late Professor Les Howard '62.
