Employer Hiring Policy

The Whittier College Center for Career and Professional Development offers facilities and services to employing organizations with full-time, part-time jobs and internships. Employers using campus facilities must comply with our employer hiring policy. Some services and facilities provided to employers include fees which are known in advance. A finance charge to employers may be added to past due balances. A late fee of $25.00 may be charged if payment is past due. A $25.00 no-show fee may be charged if representatives fail to attend scheduled events.

The following guidelines govern the manner in which the employer uses the CCPD to access candidates. All employers are required to work within a framework of recruiting, interviewing, and selection as stipulated in the NACE Recruiting Policies.

Legal and Ethical Restrictions

To protect Whittier students, the CCPD reserves their right to refuse service to employers due to: dishonesty; breach of confidentiality; fraud; misrepresentation; abuse or harassment of Whittier College students, alumni or staff; or any other violation of College rules and regulations, local, state or federal laws.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Employers are expected to

  • Act without bias when screening candidates, interviewing and making employment decisions.
  • Ensure equitable access to opportunities without discriminating on the basis of race, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, disability, age, economic status or veteran status.

Handshake Employer Requests

Minimum Requirements In order to vet opportunities appropriately and confidently to our students, employer requests on Handshake must demonstrate ALL of the following minimum requirements for approval:

  • Contact name and contact information (Corporate address, private addresses and P.O. boxes cannot be accepted)
  • Well-written company description
  • E-mail address listed must match the company name and website
  • A dedicated company website that matches the company name and is operational. Social media pages are not sufficient.

Disclaimer

All hiring and compensation for work performed by student employees is handled directly between the student and the employer. The CCPD does not perform background checks on students nor on employers posting job opportunities. Employers and students are encouraged to request information from each other as needed to establish qualifications and fit between the applicant and employer (such as application, resume, cover letter, interview, portfolio materials).
