Essential Functions of the Job

35% - Financial Reporting & General Ledger Management: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Oversee the month-end and year-end close process, including complex reconciliations, journal entry reviews, and maintenance of the Chart of Accounts.
25% - Audit & Compliance Coordination: Lead the preparation for the annual external financial audit by coordinating audit schedules and collaborating with auditors. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including the preparation of IRS Form 990, UBIT (unrelated business income tax) returns, and grant reporting.
20% - Supervisory & Operational Oversight: Directly supervise business office staff (e.g., Accounts Payable, Payroll, or Student Accounts). Review operational data for accuracy and ensure internal controls are robust and effective in preventing errors.
10% - Budgeting & Financial Analysis: Assist in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets. Conduct variance analysis, trend forecasting, and financial modeling to provide actionable insights for senior leadership.

The Finance Department at Whittier College is seeking an Assistant Vice President or Senior Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis. 

The Financial Planning & Analysis position leverages deep knowledge of economic analysis, financial data, information systems, and organizations to enhance the college’s strategic decision-making, budgeting, fiscal stewardship, business processes, and evidenced-based decision-making.  The role leads the annual budget development process and well as the review of actual and forecasted performance relative to budget. Essential Functions of the Job

Fiscal Stewardship and Management - 45%

  • Help lead the annual budget development process in a manner that achieves college goals, while ensuring broad ownership and understanding of budget targets.
  • In collaboration with the College Controller/AVP Finance and IT Services Director, help produce and review financial reports, including variance analysis, for all Leadership Team members and designated budget managers to ensure fiscal accountability and to identify areas for improvement.
  • Partner with Human Resources so that compensation budgets inform the approach to position management, salary adjustments, and benefits.
  • Lead the regular development and communication of financial forecasts and support Leadership Team discussions of their implications.
  • Serve as a business partner for VPs, providing budget management advice, supporting information, and analysis that helps align resources with strategic priorities.

  • Engage in multi-year resource planning modeling and share findings that inform the evolution of the strategic plan and near-term decision-making.

  • Support evidenced-based decision-making by providing project management, analytical, and business intelligence support for various strategic and operational initiatives and inquiries.

Business Process Improvement - 10%

  • Given intimate knowledge of the college’s financial structure and cost drivers, identify opportunities for improvement in operations that could lead to greater efficiencies.
  • Provide project leadership and lend problem-solving skills to cross-functional teams charged with pursuing business process improvements.

Data Management & Business Information Systems - 10%

  • Serve as the chief data steward for financial data. This involves collaborating with other data stewards across campus in the collection, transformation, reporting / dashboarding and warehousing of data collected from source systems, such as Banner.
  • Partner with IT to identify ways to leverage existing financial information systems and/or develop new information management tools that would better support budget development, financial reporting, and business analysis.

The Department of Education & Child Development is seeking a College Supervisor.

The College Supervisor will be part of the Education & Child Development at Whittier College.

The position is based in Whittier, CA. 

Positions Duties & Responsibilities

A College Supervisor ensures, through observations and follow-up conferencing, that our teacher candidates:

  • Progresses through sixteen-week student teaching assignment; during which time the candidate takes on more teaching responsibility.  
  • Writes appropriate lesson plans using the department template. Incorporated into each lesson plan template includes, but is not limited to: attending to (1) students’ prior academic knowledge, prior experiences, as well as assets and needs; (2) learning activities, student grouping, and instructional strategies that facilitate learning, academic language development; (3) diagnostic, formative and summative assessments; and (4) developmental considerations and accommodations for EL, SN and students with academic/emotional support needs. Lesson plans must also (6) explicitly reference all Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs) as appropriate.
  • Understands the Teaching Performance Assessments, Instructional Cycles 1 and 2, and are supported during as they complete these cycles during student teaching. 
  • Applies techniques of classroom management to ensure best possible learning environment for students.

College Supervisors need to fulfill the following for each teacher candidate:

  • Observe lessons and use observations to complete all required evaluation forms.
  • Conference with the candidate after each observation.
  • Confer with Master Teacher at each observation about the candidates’ progress, strengths and areas of concern.
  • Communicate with Master Teacher and school principal about responsibilities of a Master Teacher and paperwork due throughout student teaching assignment.
  • Communicate any concerns about the candidates’ progress during a student teaching placement with the Director of Clinical Practice.
  • Ensure that each Master teacher completes all necessary paperwork as it pertains to their role during the candidates’ assignment. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend all College Supervisors’ Meetings, so as to stay apprised of all changes to the college’s student teaching program, CTC requirements, and develop professionally as an educator.
  • Attend one adjunct-faculty meeting per semester to continue professional development and stay apprised of all college and Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) requirements.

Qualifications

  • Five years of successful teaching experience in a public school.

  1. Develops, supports and troubleshoots the campus voice and data communications network.
  2. Administrates, monitors, gathers statistics, and maintains network management of all network devices and systems, including hardware components, networking software systems, UPSs, and protocols.  Prepares detailed proposals, cost analyses, and project management and implementation requirements.
  3. Installs intra- and inter-building network cables and associated hardware.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Provide overall supervision of scenery and properties construction and stage rigging for department productions.
  • Serve as a hands-on scene shop supervisor.
  • Serve as lead scenic carpenter and lighting technician as necessary.
  • Instruct and supervise a part-time, paid student technical staff (typically 15 to 20 students) and also laboratory students in scenery construction, basic painting, stage properties, and the costume studio (in consultation with the guest costume designer).
  • Oversee basic lighting and sound technical support for department productions with assistance from other theatre staff and faculty.
  • Supervise load-in and strike for each production.
  • Coordinate purchases and rentals for scenery, lighting, and stage properties.
  • Maintain scene shop inventory and equipment.
  • Maintain the lighting and sound equipment in the department’s Studio Theatre.
  • Rigorously maintain a safe working environment and safe working practices as part of providing technical support for the department.
  • Supervise student crews as needed during technical and dress rehearsals and performances.
  • Serve as the department’s chief technical liaison with the staff of the college’s performing arts center.
  • Monitor and approve student employees’ bi-weekly time sheets.

The position is considered full-time with weekly hours varying per week, depending on the production schedule, which will include four to six weekend workdays for each major production.

Position Specifications and Requirements

Qualifications: B.A. or B.F.A. in theatre with an emphasis in design and technology or equivalent professional experience. Must be familiar with reading floorplans for design for theatre (scenic and lighting), and theatre safety standards (OSHA).

Additional requirements: Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding, use and supervise the safe use of telescopic personnel lifts, manually lift a minimum of 50 lbs., and work directly and actively with students and other staff members in the scene shop, backstage, and onstage
