Since 1990, McCray has served on the nine-member board of the San Joaquin County Employees Retirement Association, an independent agency sponsored by the county that currently manages $2.5 million in retirement funds for 7,141 participants, according to a Tracy Press article. Additionally, he has served as the City of Tracy’s elected treasurer for 22 years. McCray is a director of the Merchant Services Credit Bureau, a board member of the Community Foundation of San Joaquin and San Joaquin County Office of Education Foundation. He owns his own consulting business in Stockton where he works with The Harford Institutional Deferred Compensation Plan.

“Being active in SACRS has helped me as city treasurer to stay abreast of the types of investments available to city funds and to avoid mistakes,” said McCray. “Investment conditions are always changing, and you need to stay on top of development.”
