Learn more about Whittier College's plans for Fall 2020
Gonzalez joined the Whittier faculty in 2005, and has served as the Associate Dean of First-Year Programs since 2014. He is also currently in his third and final year as the Garrett House Faculty-in-Residence. During his time at Whittier, Gonzalez has worked closely with multiple departments and programs to develop a Student Life curriculum, the Poet Early Alert Program, New Student Orientation, and more.
As Associate Dean for Academic Support, Gonzalez will aim to create integrated academic support for students and faculty by coordinating existing resources and developing innovative new strategies for student and institutional success.
“My hopes are that with my expanded responsibilities with the Center for Advising and Academic Success, Student Disabilities Services, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs, we can work together, as a team to reimagine what we do to support the students of Whittier College,” he said.
Gonzalez is taking on this newly-created position at an especially unique moment for the College. He views this time as a special opportunity, not a disadvantage. “We are at the right moment to streamline and maximize the potential we have for student success,” he explained.
Ultimately, Gonzalez hopes to combine his multi-dimensional experience as a faculty member, program-leader, and administrator to bring the College a fresh approach to student success.
