Former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science Cheryl Boone Isaacs ’71 is partnering with legendary music producer Quincy Jones to co-produce a documentary on the black experience in the entertainment industry.
The documentary, American Film: The Black Experience, will focus on the history of African Americans in Hollywood. Since making the announcement of the groundbreaking project at the Ischia Film Music Festival in Italy, Boone Isaacs and Jones have been featured in several news outlets including The Hollywood Reporter and Essence.
“I think what is important is the backstory of us in the entertainment business, whether it’s film, music, or television,” Boone Isaacs told the audience at the film festival as reported by Essence. “There are so many of us that people don’t know about, which is what we are going to bring forth and tell the world.”
A release date for the documentary has not yet been announced.
