Message to Campus Community

February 13, 2022

Dear Whittier College Community:

We write to share the extremely sad news that there has been a student death on campus. The student resided in Ball Hall. At this time, we cannot share the name of the student or any further information.

All other residents of Ball Hall have been asked to leave the building temporarily and they will be receiving further directions from Residential Life staff.

The Whittier Police Department and the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office are on campus. Please stay away from the area so that they may conduct their business.

Counseling is available to all students. Dr. Jonathan Ly will be available for virtual student consultations via Doxy from 6-9 p.m. Let’s Talk services will be available for virtual consultation tomorrow (Feb. 14) from 8 a.m. – noon, call 562.907.4239 or email counselingcenter@whittier.edu for a time. The Counseling Center has counselors available 24/7 by calling Campus Safety at 562.907.4211 and asking to speak to the "counselor on call." The California Warm Line, 855.845.7415, also offers 24/7 support, or you can text “HOME” to the Crisis Text Line: 741741.

We will provide more relevant details as we are able to over the next few hours and days.

Please reach out if you need any support.
