Poets Go Green: Environment Takes Front and Center at Whittier

Poets go green and participate in Heal the bayMore than 400 Whittier College students, staff, and faculty joined volunteers from all over Los Angeles County for the 2010 Heal the Bay Costal Clean-up event this weekend.

Participation in this program is part of a larger College theme, Poets Go Green, which is designed to promote an eco-friendly consciousness on the campus community.

"Many of our students come to campus already understanding the importance of being good stewards for the earth. When they come here, they are seeking ways to change the world. What we try to teach them is that making a difference is possible, even if it is done in small ways like recycling or using less water. And, by participating in Heal the Bay, a world-wide event, we are providing our new students an opportunity to collectively make a huge positive impact on the environment," said Dean of Students Jeanne Ortiz.
