Sharpening Career Prep Skills

March 8, 2018

student speaking to employerThe Weingart Center for Career and Professional Development hosted Straight Outta College, a week-long event featuring six, hands-on career development training sessions designed to provide students with valuable career skills to help them land the perfect internship or job.

Workshop topics included careers in the mental health field, job-search skills, and networking skills. VIPs On The Rooftop, one event during the week, introduced current students with alumni where they asked important questions and learned about career opportunities after graduation.

Economics major Alex Bautisks ’18 was among the many Poets who attended the program.

“I had a great conversation with an alumnus from Balboa Capital,” he said. “It was great to see someone who is in the same company that I would like to be in and being from Whittier just made that connection so much stronger at first glance.”

This year’s keynote speaker was David Smith, an author and educational consultant with more than 30 years of experience in the fields of education, law, and business.

The week’s events culminated with the Career and Internship Expo, which aimed to connect all students with diverse professional opportunities. More than 50 employers and alumni were on campus to connect with and mentor students.
