Bringing Horror to Life

Twin girls in matching dresses stand in hallway in famous scene from the movie, The ShiningWhile most people are welcoming the warm summer, the creative minds at Universal Studios Hollywood are already thinking ahead to Halloween. Under the guidance of creative director John Murdy ’89, this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at the theme park will include The Shining as a new maze. The attraction will include scenes inspired by the Stephen King novel, which was later turned into a film directed by Stanley Kubrick.

As mentioned in a recent article in the Orange County Register, “the maze experience will include some of the film’s most popular scenes and send guests through the halls of the Overlook Hotel.”

Murdy received his bachelor’s degree in theatre from Whittier and has been at Universal Studios Hollywood since 2005. He was brought on-board to revitalize the theme park’s Halloween Horror Nights. Click here to read the full Orange County Register story.
