Poet Update: Driving Momentum

August 11, 2025

Dear Poets,

With August upon us, the summer sun warms our beautiful campus, but we can already feel the beat of the new academic year beginning to pulse.

We are wrapping up our Poet4Life regional alumni gatherings, and what a summer it has been! From connecting with old friends to expanding our Poet network with new connections, I was inspired by the many ways you showed up for one another and for Whittier College. Thank you to all who participated. Your commitment reminds us what being a Poet for life truly means. And for those in Chicago and Honolulu,  make sure you don’t miss it!

Turning our eyes to fall,  we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you back to campus for Homecoming Weekend Oct. 10-12. The festivities kick off on Friday, Oct. 10 with a full slate of campus activities, culminating in the State of the College address, where I’ll share exclusive updates on new initiatives and the incredible strides the College made this past year.

One such accomplishment is the success of the Whittier Now! fundraising campaign, which you can read all about in the story below. Thanks to the generosity of alumni, families, and friends, we surpassed our fundraising goals, enabling us to make immediate impacts on our students, faculty, and campus. Thank you for your continued investment in supporting a future that matters, one that continues to demonstrate that our students are career and graduate/professional school ready — because Whittier Works.

As we put the finishing touches on syllabi and classrooms, and as I prepare to personally hand out residence hall keys to the students coming back to campus on Aug. 17, there is a real sense of momentum building. Thank you for driving so much of that momentum through your gifts of connection, time, and your generosity.

Enjoy these last days of summer, and we can’t wait to see you back home next fall.

Go Poets!
