When Marin Hensley ’26 came to Whittier College from Minnesota State University Morehead, she had a clear goal: to grow both as an athlete and a student. In addition to being committed to playing soccer at a high level, Hensley was eager to develop her professional skills in Los Angeles’ backyard.
As a business administration major with a concentration in accounting, Hensley made the most of her time by combining classroom and hands-on learning. One of her main extracurricular activities was through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, where she provided free tax return support for qualified members of the public. In addition to connecting her with the surrounding community, the experience helped Hensley cultivate practical skills that will support her next chapter.
As for what that chapter entails, Hensley is starting the Master of Business Taxation (MBT) program at the University of Southern California this fall.
Before we let her go, we asked Marin a few questions about her time at Whittier and experience as a Poet.
What was your favorite class at Whittier? Federal Tax Accounting.
What’s your favorite spot on campus? Hoover Hall.
What’s a fun fact about you? My go-to snack is peanut butter toast with cinnamon and honey.
What’s your favorite Whittier memory? My favorite Whittier memory is working in the VITA program with some of my classmates.
If you could give your first-year self some advice, what would it be? Always take opportunities to learn and grow. Do not be afraid to put yourself out there!
