Board of Trustees Letter to Whittier College Community

June 5, 2017

Dear Whittier College Community:

Yesterday, Sharon Herzberger informed the Board of Trustees that she plans to retire from her post as President of Whittier College in June 2018. Over the past 12 years, President Herzberger has provided exceptional leadership for the College, and the Board of Trustees is extremely grateful for her dedication and exemplary service.

Since her arrival in 2005, President Herzberger has built upon the strengths of Whittier College, helping it grow in new and exciting ways by increasing student enrollment, developing new academic and co-curricular student opportunities, expanding campus diversity, reigniting alumni engagement, elevating the College’s reputation nationally and internationally, and leading significant capital improvements to our beautiful 130 year old campus. President Herzberger will unquestionably leave Whittier College in an excellent position for future generations of Poets. Click here to read the full announcement from the College.

During the next 12 months, we will certainly find opportunities to celebrate President Herzberger’s numerous contributions to Whittier. At the same time, the next year will be a busy one for the Board and President Herzberger, who will continue her full leadership responsibilities in order to accomplish goals laid out in the Whittier Excels positioning plan, as well as other projects.

The timing for President Herzberger’s retirement decision gives us ample opportunity to find Whittier College’s next great president. Soon we will share specifics about a search process that will involve members from all sectors of the Whittier College community. We look forward to working with you over the coming months as we continue to move this exceptional College forward.
