2019-02-17 14:00:00 2019-02-17 14:00:00 America/Los_Angeles Felici Piano Trio The Felici Piano Trio is the musical home of Belgian pianist Steven Vanhauwaert, German violinist Rebecca Hang, and American cellist Brian Schuldt. Felici members are prize winners of the Los Angeles Liszt, Yellow Springs, and Osaka music competitions. The vibrant threesome has performed over 350 concerts in Europe, South America and the U.S. and has distinguished itself as a unique presence on the national music scene since coming to Mammoth Lakes as grantee of Chamber Music Americaís Rural Residencies Program and as a California Arts Councilís (CAC) Touring Roster ensemble. The ensemble has concertized in Germany under the auspices of Rhineland-Palatinateís Kultursommer, and appeared on 3SAT and ZDF Television as well as recorded for German Southwest Radio (SWF). The trio has recorded four CDs, Chamber Music of Women Composers, Tchaikovskyís Trio in A Minor, a 2004 live recording of Beethovenís ìGhostî Trio & Brahmsí Trio op. 87, and Ravelís Piano Trio and Saint-SaÎns Piano Trio, opus 18. 2019-02-17 15:00:00 2019-02-17 15:00:00 America/Los_Angeles Whittier College Music Department Presents: A Lecture by Donald Prothero Donald Prothero is the author of When Humans Nearly Vanished, the Catastrophic Explosion of the Toba Volcano. Prothero has taught college geology and paleontology for 40 years, at such institutions as Caltech, Columbia, Cal Poly Pomona, Occidental, Knox and Vassar. He earned his B.A. in geology and biology (highest honors, Phi Beta Kappa, College Award) from University of California Riverside, and his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in geological sciences from Columbia University. He is the author of over 40 books (including 8 leading geology textbooks, over a dozen trade books), and over 300 scientific papers. In 1991, Prothero received the Charles Schuchert Award for outstanding paleontologist under the age of 40. In 2013, he received the James Shea Award of the National Association of Geology Teachers for outstanding writing and editing the geosciences. In 2015, he received the Joseph T. Gregory award for service to vertebrate paleontology.  In 2016, Prothero was named a “Friend of Darwin” by the National Center for Science Education. He has been featured on numerous TV documentaries, including Paleoworld, Walking with Prehistoric Beasts, Prehistoric Monsters Revealed, Monsterquest, Prehistoric Predators: Entelodon and Hyaenodon, Conspiracy Road Trip: Creationism, as well as Jeopardy! and Win Ben Stein's Money. 2019-02-20 19:00:00 2019-02-20 19:00:00 America/Los_Angeles POET TALK: Equity and Inclusion--The Future of Entertainment INAUGURATION WEEK EVENT Special Guest:Alan Seiffert President, Midnight Blue Management  Alan Seiffert is a New York-based executive with extensive experience in general management, strategic planning, business development, and legal affairs for multi-million-dollar P&L’s across live events, television, digital media, sports, and emerging entertainment platforms.    Seiffert currently serves as president of Midnight Blue Management, a full-service management company for live events, theatrical productions, and representation of world-class artists. Midnight Blue Management creates, builds, and promotes large-scale music festivals, theatrical productions, conferences, and curated special events. Prior to Midnight Blue Management, Seiffert held various senior positions in entertainment and media—including senior roles at Viacom, NBC Universal, the National Basketball Association, and the Fox Entertainment Group.     Earlier in his career, Seiffert was an attorney with Paul Hastings, and served as Law Clerk to United States District Court Chief Judge Julian Able Cook, Jr.   Born and raised in Los Angeles, Seiffert holds a J.D. from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in Arts Administration from New York University, and a B.A. from California State University, Northridge.
