The Admission Department at Whittier College is seeking an Admission Counselor. 

The Admission Counselor plays a key role in supporting the recruitment and enrollment goals of Whittier College. As a member of a dynamic and student-centered team, this position is responsible for engaging with prospective students and families, managing recruitment territories, and representing the College at high schools, college fairs, and community events. This position involves local and national travel, personalized outreach, and collaboration with campus partners to promote Whittier’s distinctive academic programs, inclusive community, and commitment to student success.
 
This is a full-time, on-campus position. This position requires significant travel, both locally and nationally, particularly during the fall and spring recruitment seasons. Evening and weekend work is also expected to support recruitment. Flexibility and a willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours are essential.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Represent Whittier College at high school visits, college fairs, community-based organizations, and virtual events to connect with prospective students and families.  
  • Manage an assigned recruitment territory, including travel, application reading, and territory-specific outreach strategies.  
  • Build and maintain relationships with high school counselors, community-based organizations, and other key partners.  
  • Communicate with prospective students and families through phone, email, text, virtual meetings, and in-person interactions.  
  • Support the planning and execution of on-campus and virtual admission events, such as preview days and open houses.

The Athletics Department at Whittier College is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director for Communications.

The assistant athletics director for communications is responsible for coordinating Whittier College’s sports information, communications, and media program. This is a position of discretion and the employee is primarily engaged in the exercise of discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance affecting the policies, programming, and compliance of the Athletics Department.

The employee supervises the assistant director of sports communications, a graduate fellow, and a team of more than ten (10) work-study students, and regularly directs their work.   • These administrative duties constitute the primary function of the position and are performed for the majority of the employee’s work time.
  • Estimated allocation of work time: administrative direction, planning, and supervision — approximately 55%; oversight and quality control of communications and production output — approximately 30%; and other duties — approximately 15%.   • Negotiates all departmental media contracts and coverage involving athletics and Whittier College athletes.
  • Has independent authority to negotiate and commit the department to media contracts and coverage agreements, and to bind the department in dealings with media partners, vendors, and the conference within delegated limits.
  • Exercises independent authority over the athletics communications budget, including allocation of funds, approval of expenditures, and vendor selection for branding, media, and production needs.
  • Formulates, interprets, and implements departmental communications policy, including social media, messaging, crisis-communications, and student-athlete conduct standards, and exercises final approval authority over departmental messaging.
  • Represents the department and the College in dealings with the SCIAC conference and NCAA national offices on matters of significance, and commits the department to positions and reporting on its behalf.

  • Arranges opportunities for team photos, team media days, programs and other College sports publications.
  • Nominates and promotes individual athletes for in-season awards, post-season honors, scholarships, and other awards.

  • Travels with teams to post-season events, and conducts limited in-season travel.

  • The following technical and production tasks are secondary to the position’s administrative function. Where practicable, hands-on execution is delegated to and performed by work-study students, interns, and the graduate fellow under the employee’s supervision; the employee’s role is to direct, oversee, and set standards for this work.
  • Directs and oversees sports information game coverage of all home varsity events, ensuring coverage and customary media reporting duties are staffed and executed by the Assistant Director of Sports Communications and the student team.
  • Oversees the compilation, maintenance, and updating of statistics for all Whittier sports via PrestoStats and NCAA LiveStats, delegating routine data entry to trained student staff.
  • Maintains, with periodic updates, the standards for the Whittier College record books and athletic web site (wcpoets.com); directs student staff in their routine upkeep.
  • Develops and directs the department’s social media strategy and approves messaging to deliver the proper message to fans, recruits, supporters of the program and media.
  • Directs and approves the writing, editing, design, and publication of team sport public announcements and press releases.
  • Directs and approves the production of departmental publications for event such as: tournaments, President’s Club Luncheon, Purple & Gold Sports-Night, Hall of Fame and the annual Purple & Gold Golf Tournament.
  • Directs the planning, staffing, and production of live  game broadcasts from the Whittier College Sports Network and SCIAC Network, coordinating student and event staff to broadcast home events over the internet.

The Finance Department at Whittier College is seeking an Assistant Vice President or Senior Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis. 

The Financial Planning & Analysis position leverages deep knowledge of economic analysis, financial data, information systems, and organizations to enhance the college’s strategic decision-making, budgeting, fiscal stewardship, business processes, and evidenced-based decision-making.  The role leads the annual budget development process and well as the review of actual and forecasted performance relative to budget. Fiscal Stewardship and Management - 45%

  • Help lead the annual budget development process in a manner that achieves college goals, while ensuring broad ownership and understanding of budget targets.
  • In collaboration with the College Controller/AVP Finance and IT Services Director, help produce and review financial reports, including variance analysis, for all Leadership Team members and designated budget managers to ensure fiscal accountability and to identify areas for improvement.

The College Supervisor will be part of the Education & Child Development at Whittier College.

Positions Duties & Responsibilities

A College Supervisor ensures, through observations and follow-up conferencing, that our teacher candidates:

  • Progresses through sixteen-week student teaching assignment; during which time the candidate takes on more teaching responsibility.  
  • Writes appropriate lesson plans using the department template. Incorporated into each lesson plan template includes, but is not limited to: attending to (1) students’ prior academic knowledge, prior experiences, as well as assets and needs; (2) learning activities, student grouping, and instructional strategies that facilitate learning, academic language development; (3) diagnostic, formative and summative assessments; and (4) developmental considerations and accommodations for EL, SN and students with academic/emotional support needs. Lesson plans must also (6) explicitly reference all Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs) as appropriate.
  • Understands the Teaching Performance Assessments, Instructional Cycles 1 and 2, and are supported during as they complete these cycles during student teaching. 
  • Applies techniques of classroom management to ensure best possible learning environment for students.

College Supervisors need to fulfill the following for each teacher candidate:

  • Observe lessons and use observations to complete all required evaluation forms.
  • Conference with the candidate after each observation.
  • Confer with Master Teacher at each observation about the candidates’ progress, strengths and areas of concern.
  • Communicate with Master Teacher and school principal about responsibilities of a Master Teacher and paperwork due throughout student teaching assignment.
  • Communicate any concerns about the candidates’ progress during a student teaching placement with the Director of Clinical Practice.
  • Ensure that each Master teacher completes all necessary paperwork as it pertains to their role during the candidates’ assignment. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend all College Supervisors’ Meetings, so as to stay apprised of all changes to the college’s student teaching program, CTC requirements, and develop professionally as an educator.
  • Attend one adjunct-faculty meeting per semester to continue professional development and stay apprised of all college and Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) requirements.

Qualifications

  • Five years of successful teaching experience in a public school.
