The adjunct professor will teach the following course in Fall 2026: ART 180 Narrative, Creative Storytelling, and Brown Identities in the United States (3 units)
Taught by a visiting artist, writer, or storyteller, this project-oriented course may feature personal biography, short fiction, art writing, oral histories, photo-based narrative, contemporary art practices or other types of storytelling and narrative created around the expansiveness of "brown" identities in the U.S. The course is open to all students and will be of special interest to those interested in exploring intersections of art, media, race, gender, and sexual orientation centered around Latinx, Asian American, Middle Eastern, south Asian, Indigenous, or other communities that may identify as "brown" in a racialized U.S. context.

Adjunct instructors in Art & Visual Studies are required to have a minimum of Master’s degree or equivalent in art history, art, or a closely related humanities field. The adjunct professor will teach the following course in Fall 2026: ART 371 U.S. Latinx Art & Visual Culture (3 units)
This course introduces a range of media and materials used in 20th and 21stcentury Latinx visual culture. Topics may include public and site-specific murals of the 1920s and later; photographic modernism and documentary practices from the 1920s and 30s as art and politics; the emergence of alternative media outlets for photojournalism; comic book and graphic novels; narratives of mapping and recovered histories; and contemporary art practices. The course additionally focuses on understanding historiographies of art writing and encourages experimentation with emerging digital humanities methods and other strategies for addressing a range of art and visual culture audiences (scholarly, journalistic, curatorial, popular etc). A particular emphasis on the resources and perspectives of greater Los Angeles.

Biology of Organism laboratory (BIOL 152L) This lab course is intended for biology majors and students in related STEM programs. It provides an introduction to the structure and function of the organism as a whole. The course is organized around central problems that all organisms, both plants and animals, must solve. Problems to be examined include feeding strategies, gas exchange, water balance, waste disposal, circulation, thermoregulation, dealing with gravity, and locomotion. The laboratory will introduce students to experimental design. Two laboratory sections.
Cell and Molecular Biology laboratory (BIOL 151L) This lab course is intended for biology majors and students in related STEM programs. It provides an introduction to the structure and function of cells. Emphasis will be on how molecules are organized within cells to allow for energy production, synthesis of new materials, communication with other cells, replication of genetic information, and reproduction. The laboratory will introduce many ways of studying cells and molecules, including various forms of microscopy and basic recombinant DNA techniques. Two laboratory sections.
Whittier College is seeking a broadly trained Biologist with a preferred expertise in Marine Biology, Biology of Organisms, and/or Cellular Molecular Biology.
