Theater Spaces

Whittier College students' dramatic and artistic skills bring stories to life in the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts. Below, you can "step into" the theater, from the impressive main stage to the workshops and dressing room. At Whittier, these spaces aren't for theater majors alone; students of any major can try out for productions, craft sets, or design costumes.

Robinson Theatre

The mainstage of the Shannon Center seats about 400 guests. The stage is currently under construction for the upcoming musical Catch Me If You Can.

Studio Theatre

A "black box" theatre seating upwards of 100 people. When not being used for performances, the Studio Theatre doubles as a performance workshop space.

Scenic Construction Studio

At Whittier, students gain hands-on experience in stage design and technology. Recently, they helped craft scenes from 1960s Detroit, 17th Century New England, and multiple vignettes for a rotating stage.

Costume Studio

Students in the costume design course practice research sources of inspiration, practice drawing and watercolor painting, and draw and paint costume sketches for several plays.
