Incoming Student College Finances

Breadcrumb

The Whittier College Business Office is here to help you stay on top of your college finances like tuition, fees, room and board, health insurance, and meal plans.

We also send out your monthly billing statements, process refunds, and handle your annual IRS Form 1098-T. Below, you'll find a breakdown of important dates, to-do items, and the basics of how to manage your student account and the services that are available to you through the Business Office.

Important Dates

Financial Clearance Deadline: August 29, 2025

To keep your account in good standing, make sure your balance is cleared. You can do this by:

  • Having your financial aid disbursed
  • Paying your balance in full
  • Enrolling in a 6-month payment plan through Transact

Note: Financial aid (like scholarships, grants, and loans) won’t apply to your account until after the semester starts. For transfer students, it will post about 10 days after classes begin.

Health Insurance Waiver Deadline: September 2, 2025

Last Day to Change Meal Plan: September 3, 2025

To-Do Items

• Financial Responsibility Agreement

Before the semester starts, you’ll need to sign a Financial Responsibility Agreement to confirm you understand the costs of attending Whittier. A hold will be placed on your account if it’s not submitted.

• Student Health Insurance

After you've registered as a full-time student (12+ units) through a course registration lab, you must have health insurance. You're automatically enrolled in the Aetna Student Health Plan unless you opt out. (If you haven't registered for classes yet, remember to do so through your Future Poet Portal.)

If you already have personal insurance, you can waive the Aetna plan by submitting a waiver form and proof of coverage by September 2, 2025.

Notes: Telling the Student Health Center about your insurance isn’t enough—you must submit the waiver through the Business Office to opt out. International students are also required to stay enrolled in the Aetna plan.

We generate billing statements on the 1st of every month. You can view them any time on the MyWhittier portal.

Sign up for the Fall plan by July 1 for 6 equal monthly payments. Missed that? No problem—you can still enroll, but your payments will be split over fewer months.

Plans end:

  • Fall: December 10
  • Spring: June 10

Reminder: A $10 late fee is charged if your payment is late (after the 25th of each month).

Got a credit on your account? You can request a refund starting 10 days after classes begin.

Refunds are processed every Thursday and mailed as a check to your address on file. You can also sign up for eRefund to get it through direct deposit.
